Eugenics was a very popular study "science" in the late 1800's through the mid 1950's - though it became discredited more frequently beginning in the late 40's I believe. The University of Minnesota actually had a rather prominent group of people involved in the case for eugenics in the 20's/30's. I believe there are some letters on file in the U of M's archives between the school and Hitler himself discussing the science...this is all pre-WWII of course...interesting either way.
